Frequently asked questions about skating & boarding
For beginners, I recommend a complete skateboard with a deck width of at least 8 inches. This gives more stability as you learn to balance. Our Osprey skateboards are perfect for starters: good quality, stable trucks and smooth wheels.
A skateboard is shorter (28-32 inches) and designed for tricks and skateparks. A longboard is longer (33-46 inches) and wider, made for cruising, carving and longer distances. Longboards are more stable, skateboards are more manoeuvrable.
Children can start skateboarding from about 5-6 years old. In that case, choose a narrower deck (7.0-7.5 inches) that fits their shoe size. Don't forget protection: helmet, knee and elbow pads are a must!
Keep your bearings clean and dry - water is the enemy of bearings! Check regularly that your trucks are not too loose or too tight. Replace your grip tape if it gets slippery. And of course: skating in the rain is not smart for your board.
